LARGE VINTAGE TIMBER DISPLAY / STORAGE CABINET — $3,400

A seriously beautiful, heavy old timber cabinet with loads of character and an enormous amount of storage.

It appears to have originally been made as institutional or school storage and would likely have had doors at some point. The proportions, timber and construction give it the feel of a piece that was built to last — and it certainly has.For the last 15 years it has been working hard at Big Dreams, where it has been used for displaying and storing beautiful things. It has always been one of my favourite pieces to fold quilts, blankets and textiles into — the depth and generous shelving make it incredibly practical as well as beautiful. And it doesn’t have to be a shop piece. If you have the space, I can absolutely see this working in a home as a huge linen cupboard, library/bookcase, kitchen storage, studio piece or simply as a statement piece of furniture. It has the sort of presence that could also warrant a second life through an antique or vintage furniture dealer — I’m offering it for $3,400 because I’d rather see it go to a good home and make room for the changes ahead at Big Dreams.

Measurements:
• Width: 179cm
• Depth: 50cm
• Internal shelf depth: 46cm
• Height: 223cm
• Top shelf/projection: 64cm

This is very heavy furniture and will need appropriate removal and transport. Pick-up preferred, but delivery can be arranged at the buyer’s expense.

Come and have a look — it is much more impressive in person.
Send me a message to arrange a viewing at Big Dreams, Northcote.

We think $3,400 is a very fair price for it, especially given the scale and character. Comparable tall antique bookcases around this size are currently being offered by Melbourne antique dealers in roughly the $4000 - $6000  range.
