There’s something quietly beautiful happening in the back corner of Big Dreams.
What started in 2021 as one rack of our owner’s children’s pre-loved clothing has slowly grown into something much bigger — a living, breathing extension of the values this store has always held close, It began simply.
A move up north. A family transition. A few beautiful garments looking for their next home instead of ending up forgotten in tubs or landfill.
Then our team began bringing pieces in that were their children’s. Then our community.
And now, four years on, pre-loved has become one of the most loved and fastest-growing parts of the store. Not because it’s trendy. Because it makes sense. Children grow quickly. Good clothing shouldn’t.
We have always believed in buying fewer, better things, natural fibres, quality construction, timeless pieces made to actually last. So offering a circular space for clothing felt less like adding something new… and more like deepening what Big Dreams already stood for.
These days we buy pre-loved clothing on the spot and offer a few different payment options:
— cash
— bank transfer
— or store credit (with a little extra value if you choose this option)
And honestly? The community aspect of it has become one of our favourite parts.
There’s something lovely about seeing garments move from one family to another. A cardigan worn on someone’s first birthday becoming part of another child’s story. Tiny overalls returning season after season, softer and more loved each time.
While we now buy back far more brands than we originally stocked in-store, we’ll admit we have a soft spot for seeing Pretty Wild Kids pieces come back through the doors — especially knowing how beautifully they wear over time. Our owner poured so much love into creating garments that could truly be lived in, passed on, repaired, shared, and worn again
And because this side of the store has grown so organically, there is always far more in-store than we can ever manage to upload online.
The best treasures are often found by rummaging slowly through the racks, coffee in hand, with no real agenda. It’s old-school in the best way.
Pre-loved does take time.
It takes sorting, checking, folding, pricing, conversations, community care. Truthfully, it takes a huge amount of our resources. But we continue to invest in it because we believe this matters.
Not as greenwashing. Not as a marketing angle, but as a practical, everyday way to reduce waste and rethink consumption in children’s retail.
And while we’re talking circular living, don’t forget we also happily take your paper shopping bags, plastic bags, and reusable bags you’ve been hoarding in the boot of the car. We reuse them in-store and offer them back to customers from our giant community basket at the counter. A small thing, maybe. But small things add up.
Less waste.
Less excess.
Less pretending sustainability is solved by printing leaves on packaging.
Just people doing what they can, where they can. Alongside all of this, we still carefully curate new clothing too, but we are deeply selective about the brands we bring into the space. We continue to prioritise makers who care about quality, ethics, longevity, and natural fibres. Because babies and children deserve clothing that breathes, softens with wear, and feels good against the skin.
And because we believe the future of retail probably looks a little different to the past.
More thoughtful.
More circular.
More community-led, A little slower, more human.
